Get an Early Start at NEIU! Earn Credit Tuition Free
College Classes for High School Students
Trying to figure out if college is right for you? Curious about what a college class is like? Here’s a great way to find out while still in high school. You can be a Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) student for one class per semester at no/minimal cost! This is a great opportunity for students that may not be sure about college, want to explore a subject that they can’t get at high school, or that are just interested in trying something new.
No Tuition and Fees
Dual Enrollment Program students receive a NEIU scholarship waiver to cover the cost of attendance for
one class. (Scholarship value for three credits at NEIU $1,592.85).
Students are responsible for their own classroom fees/books/ materials, which are not covered by NEIU scholarship waiver.
Dual Enrollment Overview
You can earn 3 or 4 NEIU credits each semester until you graduate from high school. You'll be taking a real college course with NEIU students, supported by NEIU faculty and staff to optimize your success. You'll connect with other motivated high school students from your school and around the city.
Classes that meet NEIU graduation requirements will be offered in one of six academic categories:
• Fine Arts
• Humanities
• Natural Sciences
• Social/ Behavioral Sciences
• Business/ Technology
• Education/ Health Sciences
Note: There isn't always a course in each category each semester.
First Half of Summer Session runs from May 26 - July 2, 2026.
Second Half of Summer Session is July 6 - August 13, 2026.
Accepted students can take classes in either or both semesters.

Guidelines for Registering for Classes
Students approved to participate in the Dual Enrollment Program will work closely with the NEIU Center for College Access and Success for support. He or she will ensure appropriate course selection and will guide students through the registration and start of term process. Students are only permitted to enroll in courses approved by the university for the dual enrollment program.
Eligibility for Continued Enrollment
A student must successfully complete the term earning a grade of C or better in all coursework to be eligible for continued enrollment. A term or cumulative grade point average that falls below a 2.0 may result in dismissal from the program. Students may withdraw from a course within the designated time frame with the approval of NEIU's Center for College Access and Success representative.
Failure to officially withdraw or drop classes will result in the assignment of an “F” (failure) grade.
